Nokia 5800 And 5530 Get New Features Via Software Update

Well here's some good news if you own one of two older Symbian^1 devices. The Nokia 5800 and 5530 did not and will not get updated to Symbian Anna (or Belle for that matter), so the situation for these phones can look kind of bleak. Yet it is not entirely so, for Nokia has been working on porting some of the aspects of the Anna update to Symbian^1 and they have now finally made it to the 5800 and 5530.

Microsoft Apps For Symbian Get Announced

When Nokia and Microsoft announced their partnership a few months ago, most people back then all but left Symbian OS for dead. Since then, there have been a couple of major updates to the OS, and the news just keep pouring. Today, Nokia and Microsoft announced that the latest productivity apps from the software giant will gradually become available for Symbian Belle.

Nokia N8-01 (801?) Leaks On Video

We just stumbled upon photos of a new Nokia smartphone. The device dubbed to be the Nokia N8's successor, is said to be called N8-01 (though, considering Nokia's new naming policy the Nokia 801 seems more likely) and features a qHD screen.

Symbian Belle Gets An In-Depth Video Preview On The Nokia N8

The latest update of Symbian^3, yet to grace us with its presence goes by the name of Symbian Belle. The second update that now adheres to Nokia's new naming structure (following on from Symbian Anna of course). Just as the E6 and the X7 were the first new devices to bring Symbian Anna to masses, expectations are high for the Nokia 700 (aka the Zeta) to be the flag bearer for Symbian Belle.

Android Top Operating System In The US, Apple Top Manufacturer

According to the latest research by Nielsen conducted in the month of June, Android has again come out as the top smartphone operating system with 39 per cent market share. Meanwhile, Apple with its iOS has gained a market share of 28 per cent, also managing to become the top smartphone manufacturer in the US.

Nokia E6 Finally Hits The UK Shelves, X7-00 Lands In The US

Two of the latest Nokia Symbian smartphones have just become available. The handsets that started leaving the Nokia factories at the end of last month have finally reached retailers. User in the UK are now able to experience the QWERTY magic of the E6, while those in the US can get their hands on the 4" AMOLED-packing X7-00.


Samsung To Pip Nokia As No.1 Smartphone Maker

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd will become the world's largest smartphone maker this quarter, overtaking struggling Nokia Oyj which has lead the market since 1996, Nomura said. In the next quarter Nomura also sees Apple Inc overtaking Nokia and pushing it to No.3 in rankings.

Nokia X7 Goes On Pre-Order In The UK, First Taste Of Symbian Anna

The Nokia X7 has now appeared alongside its QWERTY launch partner the E6, available for pre-order in the UK. Slated for release at the end of June, both devices are running the latest version of Nokia's Symbian OS - Symbian Anna. This will come as great news to any UK based die hard Nokia fans who still hold a special place in their hearts for the Finnish Symbian kings.

Nokia To Continue Support For Symbian At Least Till 2016

Ever since Nokia announced that they will be shifting from Symbian to Windows Phone 7 as their primary smartphone platform, there has been unrest among the Symbian community regarding the future of their favorite platform. So in order to put these fears to rest once and for all, Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop addressed the issue in an interview with Nokia Conversation Blog.

Nokia N9 Video Leaked

Many believe that Nokia N9 is long dead with the company joining hands with Microsoft. However, a leaked video advert on Pocketnow suggests otherwise. An official promo clip, shows off the handset. The minute long teaser reportedly confirms the Nokia N9's 12 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual-LED flash.

Ovi Store Reaches 40,000 Apps, 5 Million Downloads A Day

The Ovi Store is growing - it now sees 5 million downloada a day, nearly 8 times more than what it did an year ago. The number of apps has reached 40,000 and that numbers grows by another 1,000 each week.
The Ovi Store's growth is mainly due to the latest Symbian^3 devices and Nokia is already looking forward to Windows Phone 7 based smartphones.

Android Will Rule The Smartphones, Windows Phone 7 Will Be Second, Says Gartner

According to the analysts over at Gartner, Android will be the most popular mobile OS in the next four years reaching almost 50 per cent market share. Meanwhile Windows Phone will catch up and overtake the second place from iOS by 2015 with 20 per cent market share.

The analysts from IDC just published their forecast on the smartphone market development in the next five years. Apparently the company has some sort of crystal ball as we can not see how else they will be able to make such long-term predictions in such a dynamic market.

Nokia Unveils A New Symbian^3 Device At CTIA

As we know Nokia has sent invitations about a very special event just a week before the CTIA Wireless starts. The Finnish manufacturer is going to present a new smart phone addition to the Symbian army that hopefully sell millions.

Good luck with that! As you can see the invitation is about the latest solution for the consumers in US. It might concern the recently leaked Nokia X7, or Nokia C7 for T-Mobile US, or both.
The CTIA Wireless started on 22 March, while the Nokia's event is a day earlier on 21 March.
