New Android Phones From Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony Ericsson And Motorola Will Get Software Upgrades For 18 Months After Launch

Earlier today, while announcing Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has also unveiled details on upcoming software upgrades for Android devices. Together with other major companies, Google has agreed to "adopt guidelines for how quickly devices are updated after a new platform release, and also for how long they will continue to be updated".

The comapnies participating are: Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Vodafone. They have all agreed that new Android devices
"will receive the latest Android platform upgrades for 18 months after the device is first released, as long as the hardware allows".
So there you have it: from now on, if you will buy a new Android device from any of the companies mentioned above, software upgrades will be guaranteed (?) for at least 18 months. Of course, the "as long as the hardware allows" line does not sound too promising for futre low end devices but...we will see what happens.
