Apple Sues Samsung For Copying iPhone and iPad Designs

It seems like everyday we hear about a new lawsuit being filed against one of the big mobile companies, and we got yet another one. All things D has news that Apple has filed suit against Samsung for patent and trademark infringement or more particularly, the Galaxy S smartphones copying the iPhone - both the design and the TouchWiz UI. Samsung is preparing to strike back with lawsuit of their own too.

You should agree the someone had it coming for a while, but it seems Samsung is going to take the hit. Apple claims that Samsung copied the iPhone design and the iOS looks and used them into the Galaxy S lineup.
Apple says, "Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smartphone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple's technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products".
It also says the suit is coming so late, because "the icons in earlier versions of the Samsung smart phones looked different because they had a variety of shapes - and did not appear as a field of square icons with rounded corners". To us, it sounds more like the "Galaxy S II is coming next week and we want to spoil their party", but it could be just us.
This lawsuit mostly pertains to the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and the Galaxy Tab. But we confused on whu Apple took so long to file this lawsuit since these products have been out for a while now. Maybe Apple did not care too much before about Samsung "copying" Apple's device, but now that Samsung is selling tens of millions of Galaxy S devices, Apple has decided thet it needs to take action against Samsung. This lawsuit was filed on Friday in the Northern District of California and will seek injuctions, both actual and punitive and a finding that the infringement willful.
There is one more interesting thing worth mentioning -- Apple is Samsung's second largest client in 2010 -- it's responsible for 4 per cent ($142 billion) from the Samsung's revenue. May be it's not about patents and stuff, maybe it's Apple's way of asking for a supplies price cut? Apple alreadu knew that Samsung is "copying" the iPhone, and they still buy from Samsung.
Samsung is not going to give Apple time tough, because it's also preparing to sue Apple for wireless patent infringement.
