Apple Sold 18.65 Million iPhones and 4.69 Million iPads, According Its Fiscal 2011 Q2 Results

Apple -- which recently sued Samsung for allegedly copying the iPhone and iPad designs -- has just announced its financial results for fiscal 2011 Q2 (ended 26 March). The Cupertino-based company nearly doubled its revenue ($24.67 billion) and net profit ($5.99 billion) compared to fiscal 2010 Q2. iPhone slaes were stronger than ever during the the quarter: no less than 18.65 million units have been sold - 2.45 million more than in fiscal 2011 Q1, and almost 10 million more than in fiscal 2010 Q2. Quite impressive.

When it comes to iPad sales, the numbers are not that impressive: 4.69 million units were shipped, although it was expected that sales would pass 7 million units (like it happened in fiscal 2011 Q1). The demand for iPad 2 is "staggering", but the problem is that Apple's hardware partners can not produce the tablet as fast as needed - that's why it currently takes 1 to 2 weeks for the tablet to arrive in the hands of those who order it online.
Apple obviously did not say anything about iPhone 5 - although this will (almost certainly) be announced and released later in 2011.
