Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Will Get Android 2.3 Gingerbread In August

Back in March, Sony Ericssion delivered some very good news for those of you who own an Xperia X10. The company changed its mind then, and contrary to previous statements, said it would be starting work on updating the Xperia X10 to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

A few months have passed, and today Sony Ericssion has published an update on the status of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10. All seems to be going well. As a consequences of user feedback, Sony Ericssion will even include the camera UI seen in Android 2.1 in the update. DLNA support, however, would not make it, since it required some additional certification which would have delayed Sony Ericssion's promised 'summer' timeline for the update.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the Xperia X10 will basically be an experience very similar to what you can see on the Xperia Arc. Even the pervasive Facebook integration will be there.
The rollout of the update is expected to start at the beginning of August. Devices bought unlocked and unbranded will get it first, while some carrier-customized versions of the X10 may never see the update to Gingerbread unfortunately. That, of course, has more to do with those carriers policies than with Sony Ericssion.
So for X10 owners out there, the future definitely seems bright. Which can not be said for those people owning an Xperia X8, X10 mini and X10 mini pro as those devices will be forever stuck on Android 2.1.
