Apple has signed a music licensing agreement with EMI Music for an upcoming cloud-based music service, CNET reports. The Cupertino-based company already has such a deal in place with Warner Music, and CNET reports they are nearing the end of negotiations with Sony and Universal.
Were they able to complete deals with all four major US labels by 6 June, Apple could announce their long rumored cloud music service at next month's WWDC.
Soptify, the European streaming service that has not yet found a way to negotiate US licenses, could be rendered irrelevant stateside if Apple's service proves to be popular. If the business model is successful, it could also lead to Google and Amazon giving in and accepting the labels terms.
It remains to be seen which model provides what consumers want; Amazon is limited by meek storage size options, Google's service is not even technically out yet, and the terms of Apple's rumored service have not yet been revealed.
