In 2010, for a couple of months or so the entire mobile-focused blogosphere was all abuzz about a mythical Project Emerald, a venture by T-Mobile USA that finally resulted in the T-Mobile myTouch 4G in the States. The codename for this device was HTC Glacier, and it has made it into TMo's lineup during the last quarter of last year.
So why bring this up now? Well, MobileSyrup has heard that Mobilicity plans to launch to lauch the HTC Emerald in Canada sometime in mid-May. A quickly-snapped pic has also surfaced, which, despite the odd angle and cutting off most of the device, clearly shows a slightly redesigned myTouch 4G. It may launch as the HTC Emerald, or that may just be a codename all over again, and as such the handset may get a new brand before release. We will see.
Mobilicity's Emerald will have the same 3.8-inch 800x480 capacitive touchscreen that the myTouch 4G has, and the same 5-megapixel camera, but it will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread from day one. It will also have HTC's Sense UI overlay on top of Gingerbread.
That's all we know for now, so stay tuned. More details about this smartphone will surely come soon.
