Android and Windows Phone Will Rule The Smartphone Market In 2015

IDC has issued a new report on the worldwide smartphone market, which includes some bold prediction. According to the company, more than 450 million smartphones will be shipped in 2011 -- a 49.2 percent increase compared to 2010 (when 303.4 million smartphones were sold).

Reportedly, 39.5 percent of the smartphones shipped this year will be Android-based, this making Google's OS the world's most popular mobile platform, Symbian would remain on the second postion, with a market share of 20.9 percent.
IDC expects Microsoft's Windows Phone to capture about 5.5 percent of the market this year -- since it believes Nokia's first Windows Phone handsets will only be released in 2012.
However, in 2015, WIndows Phone should become the world's second largest mobile platform, with a market share of 20.9 percent -- ahead of iOS (15.3 percent) and BlackBerry (13.7 percent), but still behind Android (45.4 percent).
As shown in the table above, Symbian is expected to be nearly extinct in 2015, with only 0.2 percent of the smartphones running it. How much of this will be true? There is only one way to find out, and that is, well, waiting for 2015 to end.
